Not Just Politics: Citizens’ Academies in Asheville/Weaverville Matters for Health
RiverRock Clinic is uniquely positioned — we’re incorporated in Weaverville, but get mail through Asheville.
We’ve been thinking more about how health is deeply tied to policy — and how knowing how local government works can help us all thrive.
Weaverville’s Citizens Academy gives a great intro to town departments — police, fire, parks, and more. This one runs Jan-June once a month. Apply now for 2026 and see Dr. Lok there!
Asheville’s Citizens Police Academy runs twice a year and is open to curious citizens of all backgrounds. It is an intensive once a week for 10 or so week. From trying on a bomb suit to learning about use of force to a scenario day where you are in the police officer's role, it's informative no matter your politics. See pictures of Dr. Lok at the last academy. Highly recommended.
